Following specific feedback from the LensCulture critique, I have mocked up some variations on how to handle the text fragment, ents juxtaposed with each photograph.
The feedback was as follows:
“Perhaps you could go for a thinner font (not bold) that mimics a classic typewriter. And you might consider going with smallcaps for the entire sentence or perhaps no caps at all (i.e. don’t capitalize names, etc.)”
I have mocked up a range of alternatives based on these comments.
At the moment I confess I still prefer the original! With the thinner variation of the same font (2) as a close second. The all caps / small caps look odd to my eyes, and the lower case one seems to make a small change without any real purpose. The old type one is too grungy for my liking.
I am however always interested in the thoughts of others!
I agree Rob the original still works. The thinner version is also good followed by the old typewriter but this could also be a bit cliche? Did you try actual writing?

I did try handwriting, way back in Body of Work, but it really didn’t work for me. I’m happy with typewritten text. And I’m leaning towards the thinner variant too. Thanks!

I agree with Lens Culture – thinner, not bold. Implies the ‘everyday’ occurrences. Whereas in contrast the original shouts a bit? But not to the point that I find it deafening! Jane’s idea of handwritten is interesting and probably worth testing. 😄

Yeah I’m leaning towards the thinner. Cheers.

Agree – original, then thinner. All caps/lower case doesn’t really work. Have you tried Garamond font?

Funnily enough, I did use Garamond for a while! But switched to Athelas. They are very similar but something about Athelas edged it, can’t really put my finger on it…

My selection would be thinner then original. For the rest agree with the above comments. I did look at the a few times yesterday but always come back to the top two. In terms of handwritten, you may need to find somebody that has an appealing handwriting, I certainly would as mine is awful. However, maybe as a result of seeing it for so long, I would probably still stick with the typed.
